Nashville is the capital city of Tennessee with a population of more than 600,000 people living there. It is number 23 in the United States in terms of the number of people in an urban area. Covering a total area of 500 square miles, it’s definitely one of the bigger cities in the United States. Nashville became a popular music center for country music and was known as the Music City. It was originally settled by the Overmountain men who came there to settle in Nashville and establish a port along a tributary of the Ohio River, called the Cumberland River. That happened in 1779 and slowly grew into a small colony by 1840. By the 1900s, Nashville had become a fully-fledged port and trading post. Nashville also has a history of racial unrest, with the Nashville chapter of the KKK burning crosses on the lawns of African Americans.
